Can Julia Heslin write every book from now on? Because she absolutely should: she has an amazing grasp of chemistry and interaction. The romance comes through even though Bernadette and Tanner barely interact. The book is that elusive of things, a casually diverse queer romance. Heslin is as genre savvy as one could wish a storyteller to be, and writes a fairytale that is both timeless and modern. The romance is so sweet - I know I keep harping on this, but it's really good. It gets creepy, but in a good way, and occasionally in an adorable way as well. Also, queer mentally ill Jewish heroines are like crack to me, so jot that down. I don't want to spoil anything, because this novel manages to do wonderfully unexpected things in a medium built for structure and repetition, but I 110% recommend this read.Product details

The blurb written for this even though the book is what it says does not do it justice. The writing is well done and quite humorous. The story itself is a spin on one thats been told many times but that's ok as its still thought provoking, full of life lessons and quite sweet. It reminds me of 90s sitcoms in that its meant to teach lessons to children but is still entertaining to adults. I like that feeling of nostalgia i got reading it but appreciated that the characters were relatable to many different people. Definitely check it out. There's something for everyone.
